There are many ways that you can help LOLIN in our efforts to save as many Labs as possible. Email email@example.com if you are interested in finding out more information on any of these activities.
The number of dogs we can rescue is directly impacted by the number of foster families we have who are willing to help take these dogs into their homes. Visit our foster page for more information on fostering.
Our mission at LOLIN is to help adoptable labs, no matter their medical circumstances. We rely on donations to help us provide medical treatments such as surgery, heartworm treatment, and daily medications. You can also donate time, materials, or anything else that will help our dogs! Visit our donations page to learn more about how you can help in this way.
Visit our events page to see when we will be attending adoption and education events in our community. We are always looking for volunteers to help us staff these events, talk to the public, and pick up foster dogs to attend these events.
Our dogs come from all over - we work with shelters in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio most often. Often their time is short at a shelter and arranging transports to our foster homes is critical to saving a dog’s life. When dogs are transported from a shelter to a veterinarian or a foster home, it can cover trips of a couple hours each way. Volunteers are needed at various times to help transport dogs to these different places. When we have more volunteers that can meet each other and swap out the driving time, there's less driving for everyone.
Handy items to have when transporting dogs
An extra leash and collar, paper towels, plastic bags, sheets, doggie wipes, hand sanitizer, newspaper, water bowls, water, cell phone, camera, and some treats. Always transfer the records before the dogs so you make sure you don’t forget important paperwork.
Fundraising is a major step in obtaining donations. Ideas from volunteers are needed to help create methods through which we can solicit donations. These ideas can be implemented at public events related to dogs’ activities. Volunteers with experience in fundraising and public relations are needed to spread the word to local businesses who might be able to help with donations of goods or services, event sponsorship, or financial contributions.
Before we place any dog in a home, we send a volunteer to the adoptive home to check to make sure that it’s a safe and loving environment for our dog. Home checks take 15 to 20 minutes to complete but help us to ensure that the homes we’re adopting our dogs into are as wonderful as we think they are. We’ll work with all volunteers to help them feel comfortable doing home checks and give the volunteers a form to follow.
In particular, we currently have desperate need for help in the following areas: All of Southern Indiana, particularly the Bloomington, Jeffersonville, and Columbus regions, much of Northern Indiana, particularly the Lafayette, Ft. Wayne, and Merrillville regions.
There are many services that would be of great benefit to LOLIN at free or reduced rates. Dog related services could include grooming, boarding, obedience training, veterinary services, etc.
Other services include (but are definitely not limited to) photography, printing, design work, booth or event space, or fundraising donations. If you can help with any of these services (or one we haven’t thought of!) please contact us. We would love to feature your business on our web site and let all our volunteers and adopters know of your generous donation!
Temperament Testing & Dog ID
Volunteers in outside the greater Indianapolis area (including KY, OH, and IL) are always needed to visit shelters, take pictures, and evaluate Labradors for possible LOLIN intake. LOLIN provides forms for temperament testing and it only takes a half an hour. It is an easy way to be involved in a happy ending for a dog! Contact us for more information on how you can help in this way!
